A Tribute to the Queen Elizabeth II

I, Julius Salik, Convener World Minorities Alliance welcomes you to this website:

The Queen of Democracy.

Britain is considered the motherland of democracy and the Queen is the head of the State. The democracy in Britain started long ago (for further information, please visit: royal.gov.uk). British democracy is a very good example in the modern world. In this country, 13 minority members [9 Muslims and 4 Hindu and Sikh] have been elected after getting direct votes from indigenous and majority communities.more

  • The Letter of Thanks and Appreciation

    This letter of thanks and appreciation dated 7th November 1974, is addressed to Mr. M. Salik (brother of J.Salik) by Her Majesty, The Queen  for the portrait that he had made for Her Majesty while he was just a student and not a professional artist. This letter always motivated Mr J. Salik and even after the passage ofthree decades, the good memories remain fresh to initiate the competition of the Portraits of Her Majesty to pay tribute to the Queen of Democracy as it represents the democratic thoughts and passion of Mr. Salik for art and democracy.

    DEMOCRACY

    Democracy was defined by Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) aptly as “government of the people, by the people, for the people”.

    For us, the concept of DEMOCRACY has many facets, all of them edifying:

    DEMOCRACY
    connotes

    Freedom of opinion, speech and expression;

    Guarantee of basic human rights of all individuals, irrespective of denomination, creed or religion;

    Equality and equal rights of all citizens;

    Tolerance and compassion for all fellow beings;

    Peace and harmony among people of all walks of life;

    Freedom for all citizens to follow their faith.

    DEMOCRACY
    provides for

    Harmonious and mutually tolerant society;

    General and equal right to choose the government (one person, one vote);

    Religious freedom and inter-faith harmony;

    Protection of the due rights of minorities;

    Good governance (focus on public well-being and absence of corruption);

    Equitable distribution of power among state institutions i.e. Executive, Legislature and Judiciary;

    In view of the aforementioned,
    We salute, we support and we pay tribute to
    DEMOCRACY
